Beckham Back At Practice!
Although we have been expecting it for the last week, today, David Beckham returned to the Home Depot Center Practice fields to begin his on-field rehabilitation. He was able to join in on the warm up exercises with the entire squad before moving off to the side to do his own strength and conditioning skills.
Beckham hasn’t seen the pitch since he tore his left Achilles tendon on March 14th while on loan to AC Milan. The injury ended Beckham’s hopes of playing in this summers world cup and it was widely thought that his football days may be over. I know that most Galaxy fans were resigned to the fact that there would be no Beckham for all of 2010.
However, David certainly didn’t give up or slow down. He has pushed himself to get back on the field while balancing his need for long term health. While acknowledging the fact that his injury is very serious, he has pushed his rehab with the goal of getting back with the Galaxy as soon as he can.
This should be welcome news to Galaxy fans as Beckham’s focus has been the topic of many message boards and blog postings. But with only the Galaxy to play for now it seems David has really narrowed his vision of the footballing world.
“The focus is the team and repairing my tendon. That’s the biggest thing to me,” he said. “I’ve been hitting it so hard the last two years, every month, all year round is obviously tough on my body. It’s about getting back this season as soon as possible, playing the rest of the season and then taking the time to get the rest in and repair my body and being ready for next season.” (David Beckham)
Beckham has stated that he would like to be back before October 1st, the date originally given to him by doctors as a target for return.
I probably don’t speak for all of the Galaxy fans, but a great many of us would like to get Becks on the field as soon as he feels 100%. And not a moment before he feels 100%.

This is a cool lightbulb, but unfortunately I find very little use for it. If I was smarter I would get rid of it. But I can't!

I think its good for the team to have him back working out with the team now. With LD and Bud gone for the WC and then back again, there has been a lack of cohesion with the team in the last few weeks. It seems like everyone is trying to find chemistry. Having Becks back with the team, even on the sidelines, will help the team’s chemistry when he does get back. But I agree, he should not play in a game before being 100%. Him getting hurt prior to the playoffs doesn’t help team morale.
